yes i like pina coladas

I'm supposed to be memorizing things and when that is the task at hand my mind tends to wander to anything but what I'm supposed to be memorizing. So I get on the internet because it's BUGGING me, what are the lyrics to that one song, that song from the seventies that's like BAH-DE-YAH, haminah remember, BAH-DE-YAH, dancin in September, BAH-DE-YAH, hamahshimayaaaaah-de-BLAAAAAAAAAH...

So I found the lyrics, and they're this:

Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away

Aaahh Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

Readers, all these years I've been wondering what the hell these people are actually saying. I assumed that it was like the guy from the Doobie Brothers; there were real lyrics to the songs, you just can't understand them because they get caught in his moustache. Now I find out the lyrics are literally BAH-DE-YAH. Man!

My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay

Now December found the love that we shared in September.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember the true love we share todayyy yeah

This is also the part where they go uh, Uh, UH! and then:

Aaahhh Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

There wasn´t Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - golden dreams were shiny days

The bells were ringing
oh our souls were singing
Do you remember, never a cloudy day? yow

Yow. Yow is a lyric in this song. I'm not complaining, I just wish I'd known. All these years when I was singing in my car I was doing the thing where you sort of quiet down and mumble at the point where you're not sure what the lyrics are and ALL THE WHILE THE LYRICS WERE LITERALLY JUST BAH-DE-YAH. And uh, Uh, UH. And Yow.

Hey Earth, Wind, and Fire! Was there ever any reason for this cat to feel like a silly? Answer:

There wasn´t Ba de ya............

tattoo boobies!

I had the best weekend ever! Happy birthday to my friends Heather, Rian, and Emily who I had Fun Chicago Time with this weekend! Also it was fun to see Lala and Conrad!! For those of you who weren't there, I'll tell you what we did.

We drove up to Emily's house in Logan Square at the EXACT SAME TIME. And parked RIGHT BEHIND EACH OTHER. We greeted each other in the customary fashion and then went inside to meet Emily's friends from Missouri, who were lovely. Emily's house is a SHOWPLACE, it's absolutely beautiful and had the very most impressive vintage couch and loveseat set I've ever seen in my life.

Then we realized that we were all peckish and went to Taquiera Trasposada and had the biggest Mexican food we'd ever seen for almost no money at all. Although I have to say that while I was delighted at the affordability of my taco with extra guacamole and smoky salsa, I was sad to see that the cheapest cement lawn donkey they had was $12.99. I left without the donkey.

Then we went to see Loves Me, Loves Me Not, which is the latest spectacle from Red Moon Theatre and is SO COOL. It also happens to be where Emily works. The whole play took place on roofs of houses submerged in the lagoon behind the Museum of Science and Industry. Go look at the website if you don't believe me!

Then we went back to Emily's house and her friend Natalie brought over a ROBOT CAKE. I ate a spaceship made of sugar and drank some coffee because it was 11:30p.m. and these girls were just getting started. Off we drove to find the bars "Stargaze" and "Tomboy." We arrived SO SO LATE. This cat was SO sleepy, but she drank a Shirley Temple and was brave.

The music was pretty bad. It was very repetitive and there were lots of flashing lights and smoke. I tried to dance for a while but I was shy and so very sober. So eventually I took a real cool lean against a wall and stuck with that. Plus also, gay girls who don't know you're not gay too are a little intimidating (I was afraid the new puppycats would say, "Hey! If you not a puppycat, what you doing in a puppycat bar!"). It also took us forever to go because people had to fill up ENORMOUS bar tabs so they could charge their drinks. All the cat could think about was her comfy blanket back home...

Finally we left and drove back to Logan Square and had a big sleepover, and in the morning we went to Wishbone (which had a different location from what I remembered... I think this new Wishbone used to be a place called Bright Morning or something...). I had the corn cakes with sweet pepper sauce and spinach, and it was SO GOOD!

I forgot to mention that on our way to Taquiera Trasposada the day before, we saw abandoned street kitties by Emily's house. One of them had only one eye! We decided not to stop for the cats, and so assailed with guilt were we all that we checked the next morning and found that they were STILL THERE, huddled underneath the garbage cans in the alley way. So after we left Wishbone we went to the Whole Foods right there and got cat food and put it out for the kitties. They were probably about 8 weeks old. We also called Animal Control.

Then we said goodbye and drove home, and I almost got lost but it didn't matter because I found my way again.

It was really nice to get out of B-N for a while. Our class is once again ablaze with contention over something that we are totally powerless over. It's hard to argue all the time about things like this. I have, by necessity, gotten really good at standing my ground, but I have to say that it is, at times, really exhausting. So it is really good to hang out with people who aren't involved in anything ISU-ey.

the bag means your mind; tatsuya

Here's the thing. I just don't understand why lying about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction so that we can wage a war against them under totally false pretences is a bigger deal than lying about getting a blow job. I'm flummoxed as to why the Congress of the United States has not acted as swiftly with regard to the current issue as they did to the one of yore.

It's not like he was boofing one of our enemies. I mean, I could see how your could take that as a treasonous act. Let's say he was boofing Fidel Castro. Boof being a very funny word.

Although there's something sort of romantic about that, really. Bill, knowing in his heart of hearts that Fidel is right... wanting to be close to that righteous flame... Fidel, hero of the poor and oppressed, a Communist spitfire (because what are Latins, if not spitfires?) with flashing brown eyes and a jaunty military cap, and then... BOOF!

Treason? Maybe. But they would make a cute couple.

And it's so late. but I'll wait. through the long night with you. with YOU.

Did I hear an impeachment rumor? You know, don't tease me, people. Don't outline all the impeachable offenses he's committed and then not ACTUALLY ever even start the process.

Democrats are passive-aggressive. Not me, though. After having lived in the co-op with all my girls trained in conflict management and boundaries and all this kind of thing, I am assertive.

Which brings me to the coffeetable talk we had last night (I and Geoffrey had Thai Cultural Night at our house and it was a rousing success. I believe much larger, possibly Pan-Asian themed parties are in our future). I know that this president is not doing the job he needs to be doing, but I also know that the Democrats are probably not going to be able to muster enough gumption to actually call for a hearing. What can I do as a patriotic American to get the impeachment process rolling?

I'm gonna blow him.

Somebody get me my beret!!! Because I've had it with hearing about the Iraq War, the ol' Osama Bin Laden/Saddam Hussein switcheroo, the National Guard fiasco, the Arabian Horse trainer, Trent Lott's house, etc., etc., etc.... I'm done. Courtney and Kathleen are going to hold him down, I'm going to drink a quart and a half of vodka, I'm going to uh... get the job done, and then we're calling Linda Tripp from the Oval Office and telling her blabby ass to get the hell over here and bring her f*&king megaphone.

I'm already getting a whole Lott-a support!

This morning I'm drumming up support for Relief for Trent Lott in the Airport Lounge and the world famous director and all-around badass Deb Alley offered to make brownies for the Bake Sale. She also agreed to participate in a bikini car wash. I didn't even think of a bikini car wash, that was her idea.

What I'm telling you is that people are concerned. And together, we can get that summer home rebuilt.

It actually came up that maybe the people trapped in the Superdome could be employed to rebuild the Lott's summer house (but not at a Union wage of course, that would be far too costly). And like Barbara Bush said, it's not like they're used to much anyway. I think some hardtack and a bowl of brackish water per day would be more than generous.

most delicious use of special plate

There is a Redbird Rally for Hurricane Relief today and I want to try and start a watchdog organization to make sure that Trent Lott's summer home gets rebuilt. I want to see President Bush sitting on that porch with the Speaker of the House, or whatever the hell he is, too!

I seriously want to do it. And try to get the Campus Republicans to STAND WITH ME AT THE RALLY!! The more support the better. The whole summer home was destroyed, simply wiped out in the disaster.

There is no reason I can see for Trent Lott to continue to suffer like this.

Let's roll, America!!!

wednesday is my hardest day

It is! I work a lot on Wednesdays. It's my heaviest weekday. It's the day that I teach, though I have to say I'm feeling pretty good about this semester so far.

So, anyway, I think I should list the things I'm thankful for on Wednesdays. As a stress inhibitor type thing.

Here goes:
1. for seeing my family over the weekend. I went home on Sunday and hung out with my mom and sister and brother-in-law and nephews. It was really fun to see the nephs, especially (hadn't since Christmas). Ben is taller than me now. Oy.
2. for Geoffrey! We had the best time on Saturday. We went to TJ Maxx and bought fancy duds, and then went to Hancock Fabrics to get the fixins to make more fancy duds, and then to Oriental Food Mart for cheap exotic groceries, and then to Bangkok Thai restaurant to see Samedi, and then to home where we baked a cake and then Kathleen came over and we watched a movie. And it was fun the WHOLE TIME!
3. for my friends in Iowa City. I miss you guys so much and I am so excited to see you soon! And in Chicago, which is maybe my place of residence this time next year. Oh, it's just too exciting!
4. for my new fancy duds I have on. I look nice today. And I smell like a ripe mango!
5. for coffee and cheap organic cereal (tastes good!!!)

I'm going to stop at 5 because I have to go teach now. I loves youse guys!

penetrating; meddlesome

To clarify; I think Horatio Sanz is very gifted and talented. I enjoy his comedy very much... when he tries and is not just making silly faces and giggling at himself. Horatio Sanz is not going to work up to his full potential if he is constantly underchallenged. I'm glad to see that he is doing the Bravo improv thing because I think he needs to find something to work on besides live (excuses, excuses) sketch comedy in the middle of the damn night.

By the way, hell in a handbasket is where this country is going. New Orleans is gone and John Roberts is chief justice of the Supreme Court (I'm so glad that we Democrats can keep our right to filibuster just so long as we never use it again. I feel very safe).
