It's Fine, Your Car Life

And it is a car life here in B-N, where drive EVERYDAY. POOEY! I preferred the not-driving lifestyle. Maybe someday I will live in New York City, and I will forego the car thing forever.

So yeah. Just when things get better, they seem to take a turn for the worse. I am rehearsing a play with an actor who apparently has not had any exposure to the whole actor-etiquette thing. Just so everyone is clear, if you're ever rehearsing a scene with someone wherein you kiss that person, don't try to slip them the tongue. Or use rehearsing a scene where you have to lay on a bed between her legs as an opportunity to flirt with that actress, especially when that actress has told you that you need to back off because it's making her uncomfortable, because that's just frigging gross. And if you're ever the student director of such a scene, don't tell the actress that it's happening to that it's her problem. And when she tells you, "well, no, you need to set the boundaries for your own rehearsal", you really need to not say "don't tell me how to do my job."

Also, when your colleagues in your directing class are given a half-assed version of what actually went on and they STILL tell you that you are totally in the wrong, you should apologize to that person. Or, if not apologize, at the very least, don't call that actress and ask her to repeat insights she had into the play and the time period in which it was set and then explain that the reason you're asking is because you're supposed to do a presentation in front of the directing class and you haven't actually done any research on the show at all, because she will probably, after all that crap and more that I really don't have time to go into here, want to throw gasoline on you and set you on fire. Just hypothetically speaking.

Keep doing the thing one wants to do very hard

Yeah, so things are looking way better here. I am finally settled in, things are somewhat under control, and I have made so many new friends that feel like old friends, because of the fact that we all went through the trial by fire together. I actually really like a lot of my professors. I really love my research methodologies class, and my movement class is just totally amazing. The cool thing about ISU is that they have the grad class separated into a studio situation. It's just the six of us for movement voice and acting, for four semesters in a row. It kind of sucks that we don't work with more people on our acting (although, apparently, I am the only grad that thinks this), but I do like having all the specialized attention for voice and movement.

And I have found more cool things about B-N. I met this guy who owns a record store (it's so cool, it's called Waiting Room), and he told me about a bunch of cool things going on in the area. There's actually a LOT of restored movie theatres that show arty-farty stuff (not just the one right by my HOUSE that sells BEER. There's even a DRIVE-IN. SEX-X-Y!!!). And there's a place in Champaign that is the equivalent of Gabe's. The Decembrists are coming!

And this evening? The second in a series of Ladies Nights! All us MFA/MA/MS women get along famously, so we've decided to make chilling together a regular joint. Yep. We go see a play and then eat wine and cake somewhere (it's my house this time. I kind of burned the cake, though, so I'm going to stop somewhere and buy cookies. Wine & cookies, people, I'm all class).

Calm Down Monkey! You look happy today. What's that smell?

I just talked to the Cute Boy. I was totally going to start blogging again because of this specific situation, and right when I signed in to blog the situation got even better! I wanted to bring up how the Cute Boy that I have been scoping ever since he, with such an adorable sheepishness, said hi to me the other day in a way that made my friend Courtney smile and shake her head, which then caused me to make jokes about how Captain Kirk is to the ladies as I am to the mens, that very boy was sitting next to me in this computer lab just now. He is always in the Center for Visual Arts, which means he is either a graphic design person or cinema studies. He looks like he's my AGE... Oh, my GOD. PLEASE let him be somewhere near my level of decrepitude...

Just as I sign in to blogger, HE LEAVES AND TOTALLY FORGETS HIS STUFF. This changes everything!

What do I do? It occurs to me that I could totally read through all his crap. But that's what a bad person would do. I'm not bad. Not that bad, anyway. Maybe I should give it to the computer lab attendant...?

Wait he's back! The situation, again, is reoriented! He came and got his stuff, and we BANTERED. People, I am a So Smooth Old Style Lady. He said, I guess I'm not a morning person and I said none of the best people are morning people. HA HAHA HA HA! Although, well, I am kind of a morning person. Well, o.k. I am a total morning person. So, really, that was total panic. That wasn't smooth at all.

Shit.
