it took me so long to make this joke, it's not even funny anymore

Sissy, I was totally going to sign in and say "Because!" in response to your text, but blogger is so fucky that it took me an hour to log on.

That's right blogger. I called you fucky.

How you like them apples.

i got my cowboy boots on

I finally got em. After so long waiting waiting, I finally GOT A PAIR of BOOTS. I wear them to work all the time, and it makes me feel like a Big Shot.

I also went out to see music on Halloween (while wearing my boots), and it has convinced me that I should do that all the time. Especially because my friend Kevin works for the Reader and gets free tickets. But really, I haven't embraced my social life as lustily as I would have hoped that I would have. Sure, that's a sentence.

I just haven't had quite as much fun as I was totally thinking I was going to have in my thirties when I was, say, seven. Because when I was seven, it was all about colorforms and the next order from Scholastic Books arriving while we were at recess. And eraser-smelling. I was a big eraser-smeller (still am, really). But now it's my 30s! I have a car, and some money, and all this freedom. And I use it to watch my stories on Netflix (I just finished season one of 30 Rock!). And wait for my next eBay thing to come in the mail.

I need to add some flavor to my life.

So it's a resolution. I'm going out more, I'm going to more museums, I'm going to more restaurants, and I'm wearing my cowboy boots there and back. And the next boy that wants to kiss me, I'm totally kissing him. Even if it's gross.

I mean it.

I'm glad....

  • that I saw the Pete Seeger documentary yesterday with my friends. It was SO great, though the dark side of my appreciation had me thinking that I was completely wasting my life and I ought to be out singing songs of freedom and peace.
  • that on the way home from the movie we found a wooden chair on the side of the road and used our sheer grown-up mightiness to carry it seven or eight blocks back to the car. Though this means that in my possession I now have three chairs and no desks.
  • that I'm listening to WSUI on my computer at work, although it makes me so completely full of longing for home that I'm getting cranky and using it as an excuse to eat these wafer cookie things from the vending machine.
  • that I'm smarter than I used to be. Although with this smartness comes the knowledge of how dumb I am.
  • that I'll be in Iowa soon with puppies and kitties. There is no downside to that.

making Allah proud

I bellydanced last night!!! Geoffrey and I went to A La Turka restaurant and there was a bellydancer floorshow at 9 and one of the ladies came over to our table and we BOTH danced with her. And we made the big "LAILAILAILAILAI" sound. And I ate the kofte kebab and it was really good.

I yove you

Man, cats have been busy lately. So many good things have happened that it would be unsettling to cats if they weren't careful about thinking on higher vibrational frequencies.

So the biggest thing that happened was I got to audition for a commercial that was being made by one of my favorite directors yesterday! The problem was that I about crapped my pants when I walked in and saw him on the tele-thingy (he was in Los Angeles) and so wasn't too relaxed or anything. I think it made me be not funny. But that's o.k., because you win some and you lose some. It's just nice to know that he thought I was funny enough to call me back for one of the spots. It makes me feel like I'm a Big Shot, yo.

Also, I'm in an industrial that's filming in Detroit next week, and it's so cool because they're flying me there in a plane and putting me up in a Holiday Inn. I will bring four of my friends. But, seriously, I thought I'd probably have to drive there and stay in a Super 8, so I'm excited that the situation is actually so fancy.

And I start classes at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre next week, so that's going to be neat-o. I want to be a folio badass, that's my goal. And I hear that's the place to go for that training in Chicago, so I feel lucky that I got into one of the classes. AND I feel REALLY lucky because I have a temp job that lasts from now until I go back to Iowa City and it pays lots and it's pretty easy and they don't mind when I do things like leave work to go on auditions and film industrials.

And after I get back from Detroit I have to start working on packing my stuff up so I can move into my new super cheap and totally beautiful hardwood floors and heats included apartment on October 1st!!

So I guess the moral of the story is don't make fun of the Secret, because it WORKS.

i'm a weiner

I joined goodreads, and it's wicked cool.

I have a big nasty blister on my left pinky toe that won't pop.

I'm really content these days.

I like brown rice and veggies a lot... I eat them and I feel like I'm back home in Iowa.

Reiki has been good for me.

I'm a good cat because I can manage

I am at my mom's now. I have been here intermittently over the past couple of weeks. I am a wandering gypsy right now. Why, do you ask? Well, let me tell you.

I sublet my apartment to my good friend Hannah through Aug 13, thinking that I would be able to simply live at my mothers, go visit my friend Flossie, maybe even hang around Iowa City for a while after Rep ended. Well, in the car on the way to my mom's I got a call from Chicago Shakespeare. They needed an emergency understudy for Kate in their Short Shakespeare Shrew because the original actress got badly hurt and their understudy had been hired as her permanent replacement. So until August 12, I'm understudying the understudy. It's really fun, I have the part memorized and all the business (I was terribly proud of myself on Friday when I went through my first rehearsal without calling for line once. I'm a badass.) and I'm getting paid well for this, BUT I have nowhere in the city to stay. I thought I would stay with my friend Andy if I needed to be in the city, but he's actually out of the city on a family emergency, so I've been going from house to house sleeping on floors and couches.
