Two things: I just turned on my television set and watched The Pixies on Austin City Limits and they were great! Though there were a lot of bored-looking hipsters standing very still with arms folded trying their best not to look happy or excited that they were at a live show of the coolest band ever. Those PEOPLE! What are they thinking? I just have too much joy to ever be cool. Even when I try really hard, even when I'm not trying but am just feeling serious, my joy always burbles to the surface and blows my cover. There's my joy right now, sitting on my shoulder. It looks like Woody Woodpecker.
O.K., that was the first thing. The second thing is just a funny thing I heard today that I want to share. My friend Kathleen's dad came to see the shows at ISF this summer, and as I'm sure my fellow Summitteers remember, this summer was a bit of a doozy for those of us without the air-conditioning. Especially for those of us who had to perform outside dressed for a Victorian winter in 110 degree heat (I am a machine). So she goes up to him at intermission to ask him how he likes the show and he says, and he's not a joking man, he says, "I'm real hot, Kath. I haven't been this hot since Vietnam."
If you're not laughing at that Grade A Quality Comedy, I think there's a woodpecker on your shoulder that is!
